Fully applying European water rules is key to achieving better water quality in our rivers, lakes and seas, and to reduce nutrient loss by 50 % by 2030 as set out in the Farm to Fork and Biodiversity strategies. To be applied properly, the different pieces of legislation need to fit together and form a coherent whole for practitioners and stakeholders.
As the deadlines for the Water Framework Directive approach, and the EU continues its action to enforce the Nitrates Directive, what does it all mean for farmers, inspectors and those with a stake in the water ecosystem? Are we making good use of compliance tools? How can we move faster? Where do we need to go further to meet the objectives of the European Green Deal?
