Claudio Belis

Claudio A. Belis is a project leader at the Air and Climate Unit of the Joint Research Centre, Directorate Energy, Transport and Climate. He developed his PhD work on environmental and climatic long-term trends at the Italian National Research Council (CNR) and the Austrian Academy of Sciences and continued his post-doctoral activity at the Federal Polytechnic of Zurich and the University of Bern (Switzerland).
Mr Belis has long-term experience in the use of measurements and models for quantifying the contribution of air pollution sources to inform pollution abatement strategies (source apportionment). He also applies integrated assessment modelling to assess the impact of air pollution on health and climate. 
Mr Belis led the working group on source apportionment of the Forum for Air quality Modelling in Europe (FAIRMODE) and was Convenor of the Working Group on source apportionment of the European Standardisation Committee (CEN). He contributed to the JRC scientific support to the EU Strategy for the Danube and other EU macro-regions in the field of air quality. He currently leads the JRC project to support the implementation of the EU Green Deal in the Western Balkans.
Mr Belis authored more than 100 publications including peer-reviewed scientific papers and technical/policy reports.
