The EU foresight system for the systematic identification of emerging environmental issues (FORENV) was established in 2017 by DG Environment and their partners in the Environmental Knowledge Community. The overall aim of FORENV is to identify, characterise and assess emerging issues that may represent risks or opportunities to Europe’s environment, and to communicate these results to policy-makers and other stakeholders, encouraging appropriate and timely action to be taken. FORENV is run in annual cycles. Now in its third cycle (2020-21) FORENV is focussing on emerging issues that will impact our ability to deliver a zero-pollution ambition for a toxic-free environment by 2050. This session will introduce the FORENV process, and the results so far of the third cycle.
