Re-using the Rubble: How can Cities close the Loop?

Event organised by GLOBE.EU in the European Parliament

Since materials resulting from construction, renovation, and demolition activities account for much of the waste in urban centers, the EU requires that 70% is recycled or re-used by 2020.  However, by closing the loop on these materials, recovery and recycling levels could approach 100% and improve sustainability and quality of life even further.

GLOBE EU sees a clear opportunity for cities to improve their environmental footprint, as well as their citizen’s health and wellbeing, by advancing circularity and optimizing the availability of secondary raw materials from urban mining as an alternative source.

The conference will consider the potential for reusing and recycling construction and demolition waste in cities and examine the drivers, challenges, and necessary conditions for closing the loop.
