5.3 Financing solutions for sustainable cities

Cities have a key role to play in the transition towards sustainability. For this transition to take place, innovative strategies and technologies are needed. However, to implement these, cities will require financial means. The purpose of this session is to explore the obstacles that cities face but also solutions available to cities to finance projects which advance sustainability, and in particular, environmental objectives. With speakers having different perspectives on the issue and sources of financing, the session will more specifically investigate the interactions and complementarity between public sources of funding (LIFE, Cohesion Fund) and private finance (in particular Green Bonds), including what type of funding is relevant for which type of project.
