3.2 Greening cities in our partner countries

In collaboration with the Directorate-General for International Cooperation and Development, European Commission

To move towards the achievement of the sustainable development goals, it is not just about greening the cities in the EU, we also have to promote greening cities in our partner countries. Cities in the developing world are struggling to cope with environmental challenges that are often more serious than in Europe. And this has not only environmental but also deep social and economic consequences: pollution, public health issues, disaster vulnerability, etc.

This session will highlight the importance of international development cooperation in support of global solutions for greening cities and will be illustrated with real stories. How cities abroad perform and manage to become greener and to highlight the challenges and solutions in partner countries (including the relevance and need of EU investment and experience for succeeding).
