Session 4.2

Education for sustainability and a just transition

This session will focus on a new initiative included in the Green Deal – the development of a competence framework on Education for Sustainable Development. This competence requires participatory teaching and learning methods that motivate and empower learners to change their behaviours and take action both at personal and social levels. It builds on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), citizenship, and the personal, social, and “learning to learn” key competences. The goal is to collect innovative ideas about how to develop and promote the framework on Education for Sustainable Development at EU level.

After a short presentation by the Commission to set the scene, the discussion will take the form of a World Café, with participants rotating between small groups to discuss specific questions related to the topic. The results of all the discussions are presented at the end of the session.
