International Festival of Wastewater Treatment Plants

The International Festival of Wastewater Treatment Plants aims to give evidence to the importance of nature and water in protecting the environment, citizens will be involved in activities related to the responsibility of preserving and respecting nature as well as projects encouraging them not to waste water. Specifically, the national association ARTEDAMANGIARE (ARTSTOBE EATEN) organises the event at the Nosedo wastewater treatment plant  (http://www.depuratorenosedo.eu/en/parco) and at the San Rocco wastewater treatment plant (https://www.mmspa.eu/wps/portal/mmspa/it/home/mm-per-milano/servizio-idrico/fognatura-e-depurazione) with the patronage of Region Lombardy, City of Milan,  Adi, European Commission and of the European Parliament. The International Festival will be held from the 18th of May to the 20th of May 2019:  three days dedicated to the festival’s theme, the value of water. There will be guided tours to the plants, the Depur Art Lab Gallery and to the Water Museum with artistic laboratories, open to the general public. There will be artists from 37 states who produce works with waste materials such as pipes and artistic performances in the green area of the Nosedo and San Rocco plants; also there will be different thematic conferences open to the public, the stakeholders, the schools and the universities with the participation of European experts, researchers, technicians and meetings for middle and high schools.

MORE THAN 37 STATES IN MILAN FOR THE 2019 INTERNATIONAL WATERPLANTS FESTIVAL

Over 1300 people in Milan participated and visited the three days of the 5th edition of the International Waterplants Festival held in Nosedo and San Rocco in Milan, within the European Commission Green Week. The initiative was carried out by the association ArtedaMangiareMangiareArte in collaboration with MM SpA, MM Academy, MilanoDepur and with the Milan office of the European Parliament and the European Commissione.

"It is an event," says Ornella Piluso, Artistic Director of ArtedaMangiare and creator of the Festival, "which this year has been also included for its quality in the Leonardo500 program scheduled by the Municipality of Milan with the patronage of various bodies such as the Ministry of the Environment and Protection of the Territory and the Sea, Lombardy Region Council and Department of Culture, FENCO- National Consuls Federation, Consular Corps of Milan and Lombardy, Utilitalia, Enea - National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development,  Consortium East Ticino Villoresi. Many artists have realized their works on the theme of Water Value and Purification that will be visible all year round for citizens free of charge at MAF - Water Museum which is based at the Nosedo and the San Rocco waterplants in Milan".

Several schools took part in guided tours to both the waterplants eand the MAF such as the students of AfolSud and the CFP of Rozzano and student of Milan Universities. The International Waterplants Festival is an event that, through the language of art, proposes an original moment of confrontation on the most urgent environmental issues, such as value of water, environmental protection and circular economy.
