Hand in hand with nature

What we propose with this partner event is to strengthen capacity development of the young generation by providing knowledge on environmental education and influencing the attitude and behavior towards nature. We intend to achieve this objective by:

- Explaining children the concepts of environmental education, presentation of flora and fauna.
- Developing new values and a new role model of behavior in school, home and society.
- Expanding citizen’s awareness of the importance of environmental protection and friendly behavior towards nature and environment.

Environmental Education is a lifelong process: starting from early childhood to older generations. Values like lifestyles and attitudes are gained in childhood, therefore environmental education is particularly important especially for children which will grow up to be future leaders. Parks and Recreation Agency - Municipality of Tirana in collaboration with municipal volunteers, seek to play an important role in developing environmental knowledge at a younger age, trying to influence the way they perceive and act towards nature and the whole ecosystem.
It is important that children and students get the right knowledge about environmental education and be informed about the impact we have on the environment we live in.

By doing so, the children will become ambassadors of a sustainable society and will convey their new habits to friends and family members.
Meeting at the entrance of the Grand Park of Tirana, we walk by the lake, describing flora and fauna, the variations that have undergone in type and number over the past two years as a result of a continued work to increase vegetation in the park, improve water and air quality and natural ecological stimulants provided during this period of time.
The children stop at the corner where the activity takes place and the discussion is focused on increasing their curiosity on nature protection. After this, the children experiment with test tubes to see the quality of the lake’s water and the air, and how external factors influence their quality. On the second hour of the activity the children with the municipality volunteers’ prepare crafts with recyclable materials, which will be presented at the school fair at the end of the academic year. At the end of the activity, after learning the importance of flora and fauna, one of the symbols of preserving this natural balance is developing more green areas, crucial to the creation of a greener city. Together we plant trees in one of the predetermined areas around the park. This activity aligns with our green city agenda especially with the measures concerning education and awareness-raising on sustainable development, starting with children and the role that each citizen plays in enabling a green and healthy environment.
