Green Lifestyle!

A big and long party will held in Città della Scienza from 9th to 12th May! We will celebrate Europe Day and the "European Green Week", the European week dedicated to ecology and green living! Many events, laboratories, scientific demonstrations and experts conferences will be ready to answer questions such as: How much is Europe doing to combat climate changes? How much did the activist Greta Thunberg represent a fundamental step to raise public attention on ecology issues? How much can each of us, in our own daily life, contribute to making the planet a better place to live?
Which vehicle is more environmentally friendly than a bicycle? The bicycle, as a driving force for eco-sustainable ideals, will be the undisputed protagonist of these long celebration days at Città della Scienza!
On May 10th you are all invited to the inauguration of the Bike Lab, the new collateral space of the Bike_It, where between theoretical and practical modules, you can learn from cyclomechanics to the good rules of a correct cycling road behavior code.
Gadgets kindly offered by the European Green Week organizers will be distributed!
We are waiting for you!

9th May

What is in the air in the city?
What are the effects of smog, fine dust and pollutants on our respiratory system? And how, instead, a greater presence of green areas in the city could lead to improvements to our health?
Follow the focus during the Guided Tour at Corporea, Museum about Human Body

An ocean of waste ...
Have you ever wondered where the waste goes? All roads lead to the sea, the final receiver of all human waste. Unfortunately, however, most of them are not biodegradable and accumulate, creating whirlpools that are destined to grow ever more in a vortex of endless garbage.
What are the consequences of them on ecosystems and animals? Find it out!
Follow the focus during the Guided Tour at “The Sea” Temporary Exhibition

10 rules for living GREEN ...
Big changes start from small steps ... Everyone can adopt behavioral norms, adapting to European standards, and contribute to safeguarding the planet. Try to find out how much you are a GREEN citizen in this demonstration!

PONICS and the Acquaponica: signs of sustainability from the future
A hydroponic system consists of an out-of-soil cultivation, where the earth is replaced by an inert substrate and the plant is fed by a nutritive solution composed of water and the compounds (mostly inorganic) necessary to bring all the elements indispensable to the normal mineral nutrition.
The start-up PONICS designs and builds fully sustainable plants, vertical vegetable gardens and urban farms using the aquaponics system, ie the cultivation of vegetables combined with fish farming, for all those who are attentive to the origin of food products and eco-sustainability .

A sea of attention: let us defend the Mediterranean together!
The slogan is the result of the commitment of the “Panda Association” which collected 729,000 signatures on the #plasticfree petition to save the Italian seas and about (to date) 400,000 signatures to ask for a binding treaty against marine plastic pollution, to stem the invasion of plastic in the Mediterranean (95% of the waste in our seas is made up of plastic, 134 are marine species threatened by the ingestion of plastic) and in the oceans (over 8 million tons of plastic are poured into the sea every year and 700 species threatened by plastic in the world).

Global climate changes and possible impacts in the Mediterranean area
The scientific evidence of the link of climate alterations with human activities now enjoys a broad consensus among scientists. The opinion on the best method to counteract this trend and on the effects that such changes will have on terrestrial ecosystems is not so concordant.
The presentation will provide, with images and videos, a reconstruction of the changes taking place and possible future scenarios, with particular reference to the Mediterranean area.
