Festival de la Louche d'Or (Golden Ladle Festival)

The international soup festival is a humoristic and festive contest created by the association ATTACAFA. It is about something that brings everyone together – soup, the only meal shared across all continents. Everybody is invited to cook THE best soup and win the famous Golden Ladle. This is an “eco-event”. Everything is done so that the impact on the environment is minimal: use of reusable cups, vegetarian catering, an organic food truck… Green wastes are collected to produce compost, and a “green team” raises awareness amongst festival-goers. The event is free and open to everyone.

The soup festival is an “eco-event”. This means that the organisers go the extra mile to reduce the negative impact of event planning on the environment, by incorporating the principles of sustainable development in its organisation. 7 areas have been identified: food, goods procurement policy, waste management and reduction, transports, energy, solidarity and consumption. For each of these areas, the organisers plan ahead to find solutions to avoid waste, single-use goods and pollution, but also to offer healthy and local meals, to control energy consumption or to encourage means of transportation other than individual car journeys to get to the event. These goals have been met by Attacafa for the soup festival, which attracts 40,000 visitors every year.
