Advanced production technologies for circular manufacturing
New advanced manufacturing technologies are pivotal in bringing about a change and implementing the policy objectives related to the circular economy. These technologies are increasingly transforming all sectors of the manufacturing industry. The trend towards greater digitalisation – enabled by advances in data, analytics and connectivity – provides immense opportunities for the realisation of sustainable and resource-saving manufacturing. Improvements in the collection and use of data, and new technologies such as Additive Manufacturing, make it possible to optimise business operations, maximise energy efficiency and use fewer resources more efficiently.
The conference will discuss the role of new advanced manufacturing technologies in the implementation of the circular economy in relation to manufacturing and it will introduce the recent CECIMO report on the machine tool sector and the circular economy. How can new advanced production technologies help to deliver a more circular manufacturing sector? What are the existing good practices within the machine tool and related manufacturing technologies sector? How can European and national policymakers facilitate the uptake of these technologies to achieve policy objectives? What are the main recommendations for industry and policymakers? The event will be hosted by the Employer’s group of the European Economic and Social Committee and organised by CECIMO together with Technology Industries of Finland.
